【摘要】:Boththeloopbreakingtenacityandtheknotbreakingtenacity,calculatedfromthebreakingforcemeasuredundertheconditionsspecifiedhereinandthelineardensityofthefiber,arefundamentalpropertiesthatareusedtoestablishlimitationsonfiber-processingandupontheirend-useapplications.Physicalproperties,suchasbrittleness,notwelldefinedbytestsforbreakingforceandelongationcanbeestimatedfromtheratioofbreakingtenacitymeasuredinlooporknottests,orboth,andthenormaltenacityasmeasuredbyTestMethodD3822.Thistestmethodisnotrecommendedforacceptancetestingofcommercialshipmentsintheabsenceofreliableinformationonbetween-laboratoryprecision(seeNote3).Insomecasesthepurchaserandthesuppliermayhavetotestacommercialshipmentofoneormorespecificmaterialsbythebestavailablemethod,eventhoughthemethodhasnotbeenrecommendedforacceptancetestingofcommercialshipments.Insuchacase,ifthereisadisagreementarisingfromdifferencesinvaluesreportedbythepurchaserandthesupplierwhenusingthistestmethodforacceptancetesting,thestatisticalbias,ifany,betweenthelaboratoryofthepurchaserandthelaboratoryofthesuppliershouldbedeterminedwitheachcomparisonbeingbasedontestingspecimensrandomlydrawnfromonesampleofmaterialofthetypebeingevaluated.1.1Thesetestmethodscoverthemeasurementofthebreakingtenacityofmanufacturedtextilefiberstakenfromfilamentyarns,staple,ortowfiber,eithercrimpedoruncrimped,andtestedineitheradoublelooporasastrandformedintoasingleoverhandknot.1.2Methodsformeasuringthebreakingtenacityofconditionedandwet(immersed)fibersinloopandknotformareincluded.1.3Elongationinlooporknottestshasnoknownsignificance,andisusuallynotrecorded.1.4ThebasicdistinctionbetweentheproceduresdescribedinthesetestmethodsandthoseincludedinTestMethodsD2101istheconfigurationofthespecimen,thatis,eitherasadoublelooporintheconfigurationofasingleoverhandknot.Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
